Haig Marino's passion is the bike. Currently, he is the Team Captain and member of Deno's Wonder Wheel, an elite amateur Brooklyn cycling team. Haig is currently ranked as a USCF Category 1-2 cyclist. His record includes over 20 local wins and numerous Regional/National top 20's and is currently ranked 10th among Category 2 cyclists in New York State.

Racing for the past 17 years, Haig raced on the juniors' circuit across the country when in high school on Long Island. He was invited to the Olympic Training Centers in Lake Placid and Colorado Springs and was asked in 1991 to race for the Veloce Club de Tours, the amateur version of Greg Lemonds "Z" team, in Tours, France.

Haig has previously been a member of the CRCA Conrad and before that, East End/Krebs Cycle team. He participated in 5 Empire State Games and won the Teams Bronze Medal in the 1993 games.

Besides competitive cycling, Haig ran cross-country in college, for off season training, with a number of sub 37-minute 10K's. He is also an avid snowboarder and surfer and had the pleasure of surfing with Robert August and Wingnut at the Tamarindo rivermouth in Costa Rica on his honeymoon.

Haig's training philosophy - whether it's cycling, running or any sport - is all about consistency & rest. It's much better to do a short, easy workout than to skip days and try to overcompensate with a long hard day. That type of training leads to injuries and never provides the fitness an athlete is looking for. It's important to listen to one's body and better to take an active rest day than struggling to perform hard workouts if tired. Athletes will make their biggest gains during the rest period/days. Get plenty of sleep and proper hydration and nourishment.
